The history of Fearon & Co dates back to the early Nineteenth Century and began in 1820 when John Peter Fearon was articled at the age of sixteen to his mother's cousin, John Clutton. They both then later entered into partnership under the firm name of Clutton & Fearon and practiced from Crown Office Row in The Temple. John Peter Fearon was a distinguished parliamentary lawyer and was responsible for the drafting of new charters for New College Oxford and St Cross Winchester. It was during that period that connections with non-resident lawyers were established, and the firm's services have been seen publicised abroad for over twenty years.

Several generations of the Fearon family subsequently practiced from offices in the Temple and Westminster, and from Woking in Surrey from 1896. When the London office was redeveloped in the 1960's the decision was then taken to consolidate the firm's practice in Woking.

John Phillips took over the practice as Senior Partner in May 2000 following the retirement of Timothy Peter Fearon.

Francesca Nash joined the practice as Private Client Partner in 1998. In 2004 the firm moved to new purpose built offices in Guildford.

The firm now specialises in the the areas of Litigation, Property, Commercial and Probate law. In particular the firm's dedication to the provision of legal services in the area of Commercial Property led in 1989 to agreement by the College of Law in Guildford to the donation of a prize (The Fearon Prize) to the most capable Law Student in the areas of Contract and Land law.

Fearon & Co.'s established client base, in-depth legal knowledge and use of modern technology have enabled the firm to extend the provision of its services through numerous contacts and associations abroad, particularly Southern Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, and the partners are proud of its history of achievements in recent years.
